Homecoming 2024: The Lenape Speak

Hear all about this exciting event - a WDIY 88.1FM interview with Chief Adam DePaul of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, and Kelly Allen of the East 40

Lenape Conference brings together over 170 participants

It started as a long-time dream of Chief Adam Waterbear DePaul of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, to gather the Lenape people - who have been scattered across the continent - in a historic event. This dream came to fruition on Saturday, July 27, 2024, when over 170 people participated in "Homecoming: The Lenape Speak", held at Northampton Community College.

The day began with a welcome of drum music (which was offered throughout the event), and moved into several panel discussions on topics such as Lenape history, language, horticulture, food sovereignty and justice, medicine, and storytelling.

Attendees enjoyed crafting demonstrations and
another special feature was the food prepared by
NCC's catering staff, inspired by traditional foods
from a Lenape cookbook.

The conference drew participants from the U.S. and
Canada, and from numerous states. While many
represented Lenape nations, others were there to learn more about the original people of the land where we live.

If you were unable to attend, there are a number of handouts shared at the conference, available here.

Many thanks to those who attended, and to those who supported the conference in any way! (photo by Isaac Green Diebboll)
